John H.“Jack” Johnson, 87, of Lacon, Illinois died Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria as the result of an auto accident on Route 29 North of Chillicothe that day.
Jack was born in Cornell, Illinois, the son of the late Howard and Pearl(Pennington) Johnson. He graduated from Midland High School with the Class of 1953. He married Judith Shanklin and had four children. Stan (Eileen) Johnson of Billings, Montana, Scott (Cindy) Johnson of Eureka IL, Debra Moreschi of Peoria, Betsy Johnson of Kickapoo; grandchildren Nicholas Moreschi of Peoria Arizona, Max Johnson of Eureka IL, Carly (Zack) Kraus of Washington; and great grandchildren Zoey and Madison Kraus.
On August 15, 1996 he married Jane (Phelps) Briggs. Jack has two step-sons, Jonathan Briggs of Peoria, Illinois and Kyle Briggs of St. Augustine, Florida. Also surviving are his siblings Sandy (Jerry) Bennington of Irving Illinois, Dan Johnson of Somonauk Illinois, Linda (Pete) Blake of Thornton Colorado, and Doug Johnson of Thornton Colorado; along with many nieces and nephews. His son Brad also preceded him in death.
Jack was always very involved in the Republican Party starting with the Young Republicans and eventually serving on the Marshall County Board for many years. Over his lifetime he also served on many boards and in many different positions, such as Lacon Township Supervisor, Lacon Cemetery Board, Marshall Putnam River Conservancy to name a few. He was a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite and a member of the Henry Masonic Lodge.
His employment over the years included working for Pabst Brewing Company in Peoria Heights, as an independent construction contractor and a Certified Ski Instructor while living in Grand Marais, Minnesota from 2001 to 2006.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a Celebration of Life is being planned for the Spring of 2023. Cards can be sent from and condolences left at illinicremation.com
