Joni passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. She was surrounded by the deep love of her family ~ just as she had surrounded them with love throughout her life.
Joni will be remembered above all for her kind and loving heart. She is survived by her devoted husband Tim; her daughters, Hali (Dominic) Polizzi and Megan (Josh) Eckhoff, and a deeply cherished grandmother to Emily and Jonah Eckhoff, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also remembered lovingly by her sisters, Sara (Bill) Barnato and Susan (Steve) Bell.
Her family was everything to her, and nothing made her happier than being together laughing, sharing stories, and watching her family grow.
Her faith was steady and a guiding presence in her life. Joni was a member of Living Waters Lutheran Church. Joni lived her beliefs in quiet but powerful ways through kindness, generosity, and a genuine warmth that made everyone feel welcome and cared for. Joni had a gift to make people feel seen and loved.
Joni also had a special place in her heart for animals. Through her many years working at a local veterinary clinic, she cared for them with tenderness and compassion, forming lasting bonds with both animals and the people who loved them.
She found joy in life’s simple, beautiful moments ~ especially spending time with her friends, Theresa, Kim, Leslie, and Monica. Cooking and grilling for those she loved, listening to Jimmy Buffett, sitting by the water or gathering around backyard bonfires. She had an easy laugh, a bright spirit, and a way to bring everyone together.
Joni was preceded in death by her parents William and Janet Eiker of Knoxville, Il. Her sister Leanne and (Ted) Montgomery.
Though her loss is deeply felt, Joni’s love remains woven into the lives of those who knew her. Her legacy is one of faith, compassion, joy, and unwavering love. Her will lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were lucky enough to know her.
Visitation will take place Thursday April 9th from 10-11am. Church service at 11am at Living Waters Lutheran Church, 7229 Knoxville Ave, Peoria, IL, followed with a luncheon to celebrate Joni.
