Kari Kathamegos-Mitchell, 41, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away on June 1, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on March 3, 1985, in Aurora, Illinois, to William Kathamegos and Sara Grant.

Kari was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she loved spending time with those she cared about most. She also had a special place in her heart for her cats, enjoyed arts and crafts, found peace in gardening, and loved surrounding herself with beautiful flowers. She will be remembered for the love she shared, the kindness she showed, and the lasting memories she created with those closest to her.

Kari was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Shirley Kathamegos, and Carol Grote.

Kari is survived by her beloved husband, Troy Mitchell; her children, Destiney Mitchell, William Mitchell, Nathan Mitchell, and Logan Mitchell; her sister, Shari Grant; her brother, Dan Grote; her mother, Sara Grant; her father, William Kathamegos; her stepmother, Vickey Schafer; her niece, Marley Crabbe; her nephews, Morrison Crabbe and Brandon Cannon; and her daughter-in-law, Makaylyn Vernoy. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Private services will be held for the immediate family.

Though her time with us was far too short, Kari’s love will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
