Linda Marie Pates

Linda Marie Pates, 70, died on June 3, 2026 at her residence in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born in Galesburg to the late L.M. and Dorothy (Smallwood) Pates. Linda is a graduate of Galesburg High School. She grew up in the Second Baptist Church, where she was instilled with a deep life-long faith. She devoted much time to Bible Study and enjoyed meaningful dialogue.

Linda was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad, working first as a Brakeman, before being promoted to Conductor. She lived for a time in San Jose, CA and in Hamilton, OH. Her greatest love and talents were sewing and crafting. She was a brilliant seamstress and had her own clothing label. Linda will be missed and truly remembered for her beautiful smile and loud, contagious laugh.

Linda was preceded in death by both parents and her two brothers, Lynn M. Pates and John E. Pates. Linda is survived by three nieces, Linette M. (Adam) Pates-Sharp, Jessica E. Pates, and Christiana Shea, and one nephew, Langston M. Pates. She is also survived by eight great nieces and nephews (Christopher, Donavin, Carson, Crislyn, Leighton, Librity, AJ and Lynnox), one great-great nephew (Malachi), as well as a host of cousins and extended family.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cards and condolences can be sent to her niece, Linette or left at illinicremation.com
