Mary E. Colvin

Mary Ellen Colvin, 84, of Lacon, Illinois, and, in later years, Webb Lake, WI, passed away peacefully after a long journey with Alzheimer's on August 24, 2026. Mary was surrounded by family in her last moments and the outstanding staff at Country Comforts in Henry, IL. She was born on March 3rd 1942, to the late Austin L. Cranford and Mary L. (Moran) Cranford of Peoria, IL. Mary was the only girl of six brothers. She joined her older brothers George, Art, Austin, Virgil, and David in heaven. Her younger brother Rob (Linda) Cranford remains in Bartonville.

Mary lived in Peoria and attended Woodruff High School, where she met her husband, Larry W. Colvin. They were married on December 10, 1961, at the Peoria Heights Congregational Church. Both Larry and Mary took pride in raising their three boys, the late Brett (Tameco) Colvin of La Rose, Tony (Lisa) Colvin of Lacon, and Lance Colvin of Varna.“Mar and Lar” also enjoyed spending time with their grandkids and great-grandkids. Brittany (Korey) Williamson, Abby (Mark) Thomas, Sydney Colvin, Wyatt Colvin, Sierra Colvin, Isabelle (Kody) Jason, and great-grandkids Willow, Ansleigh, Cooper, Maizy, and soon-to-arrive River.

Mary worked at the bank in Lacon for more than 30 years. Her full-time job was running Brett, Tony and Lance around to sports and being a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed chitchatting at bunko, working with her gals, and saving money to retire to Wisconsin. Mary and Larry both spent many summers and eventually retired to northern Wisconsin fishing, four-wheeling, and, for Mary, volunteering with the annual rummage sale at the Webb Lake Community Center.

Many remember Mary as a gentle, kind, and compassionate lady. She loved cheering at Midland High School volleyball games, playing bingo & bunko, and was a merciless 7’s and rummy player. She was well known at the local casino in Wisconsin and made many friends through the community center in Webb Lake.

Cremation will be accorded. The Celebration of Life will be at the Bridgetown Event Center in Lacon, IL on September 13th from 2:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Marshall County St Jude Run.
