Samuel Joseph Hart

Samuel Joseph Hart, 37, of Hopewell, IL, formerly of Mahomet, passed away on October 2, 2025 at his home. Sam, as he was known by friends and loved ones, was born on June 28, 1988 to John and Dee Ann (Swearingen) Hart in Peoria, IL.

He was preceded in death by his father John Paul Hart. Sam is survived by his mother Dee Ann of Mahomet, his brother Michael (Priscilla) of Mahomet, and their children Adam, Aiden, and Ava.

Sam loved music - particularly the “Grateful Dead”. In his younger years, he loved playing baseball and hockey. Sam had a spirit for adventure and enjoyed skydiving having jumped out of airplanes over 200 times. He was very good at painting and had a knack for photography.

Sam will always be remembered for the love and affection he showed to his family and friends. The courage he displayed during many years of battling severe depression and mental illness will be admired by those that knew him.

A memorial service will be held November 1, 2025 at Unity Baptist Church in Champaign at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of Sam.
